Sew what...

About a month ago I decided I wanted to buy a sewing machine. Usually, when I think of something I would like to buy a few days later, I forget about it. Buying a sewing machine has stuck with me (at least for a month). The only other thing like this that I want to buy is a Kitchenaid mixer, but I think I will wait for that one until I am married, or at least have my own place, whichever comes first. After looking around for a little while, I came across this one on Amazon (perk alert: I have over $100 worth of Amazon gift cards):

This machine is only $160 and seems to get pretty good reviews as well. I am not planning on sewing my clothes, and haven't sewn a lot (a few pairs of modest shorts for girls camp, some clothes for my barbies, and an apron pretty much sums up my sewing resume) so I just need a simple easy-to-use machine.

Why sewing? Why start now? Well, Why not? I don't really have a hobby, but I do love making improvements around my apartment and have been trying to make my tiny little apartment more of a home. I have seen some really cute things on different blogs that I would like to do (only they need a sewing machine!). I come home from work everyday and don't have much to do for a few hours. Sewing will be much more productive than fiddling around on my computer, watching TV, or taking a nap. I already know that I love working on projects and seeing the end result of things that I make (even though I don't make much). Also, I have a large bundle with tons of clothes that all need repair. Now I can do it myself instead of paying money for other people to do it! Woohoo. I love saving money (by spending money).

I think something like the pillow below will be my first project. I saw it on the blog, jonesdesigncompany.com, and knew that I wanted one for my couch that is against the window.

I don't expect to use the sewing machine (the one that I am this close to ordering) everyday, but I think it is something good to have on hand no matter if you don't use it all the time. Plus, after gift cards, it will only cost me $50. I am sure that I will get at least $50 worth out of it. And if I don't, not that big of a deal. Let me know if you have seen any other cute ideas of things I can make!

Going to Houston on Friday to visit Beth for a long weekend. Boy, it will be nice to get out of Provo for a few days. When I get back, I will write and let everyone know if Texas is as great as Texas thinks it is. Also, tonight is my ward opening social. A few years ago, Erin met her now husband Dave at the opening social. Maybe tonight will be my night :)
