Well...ho, ho, ho

In the world of a constantly moving, rarely home, always at school college student, who lives in a climate that says "I am not sure if I can decide whether I want Spring to bloom or whether I want Jack to nip at your nose," there are few things worse than forgetting necessities at home. Today, these necessities entail my chapstick (to guard me from Jack from nipping at my lips) and my cell phone. Oh Wo Be Unto Me!

It is pathetic how I cannot last a whole day without these essentials. Communication has been cut off except by e-mail. My lips look like the desert ground. I think that I probably should be learning an important message about how I rely on some things too much, but I can't really think about that right now.

Always an Adventure, Always...

How we have fun in Provo, UT! Yay for the Festival of Colors!

Long ago I decided that there is never a dull moment in my life, and when my life starts to get dull, something happens. I am a little reckless too, so that probably helps with the whole lack of dullness.
Last week, I was at Progressive Power Tumbling...you know, tumbling, and jumping, and doing all sorts of things when I landed funny on my back and neck and felt like I had slept on my neck really weirdly for the last couple weeks. I didn't really think anything of it, but then the next day, I could not really move. I struggled through the day and meandered home in severe pain, and decided then that I would go to the doctor the next day. Turns out I sprained my back and neck. A lot of people have asked me what a sprain is here is my finding from tons of research...aka...Wikipedia....

A sprain (from the French espraindre - to wring) is an injury which occurs to ligaments caused by being stretched beyond their normal capacity and possibly torn. Muscular tears caused in the same manner are referred to as a strain. In cases where either ligament or muscle tissue is torn, immobilization and surgical repair may be necessary.

I hope you learned something from that. So basically, I am on a few meds, get to go to physical therapy, and get shots in my back! Woohoo! I am feeling pretty much better now, but I can feel when it is time for me to take my medicine. I have started moving around a lot more, which I am not supposed to do, but I get too excited about things and start prancing and jumping around. Bad idea...

Quick story on how the meds have affected me. On Friday night I had a date. We were getting up from eating and I was feeling a little dizzy from the elephant pill I had taken an hour before. Got up from the table and fell right on over. Onto the ground. Some random guy had to catch me. How Embarassing. I am just glad the dress I was wearing didn't go flying over my head. The End.

Life is a lot of fun when you are happy.

After what seemed like a gazillion bad or so-so days in a row, days where getting out of bed was a serious burden (and that is usually NOT me), I am finally having a succession of days where life is just wonderful! Here is my list of reasons life is good now (it was fine before, but now it is good)
  • I knew this week was starting off good because I brought the right file to class so I could give my presentation! Happiness!!! (last week I was supposed to give the presentation, but brought the wrong file and couldn't do it...shucks) Today, I had to do 2 presentations in class, but I think they both went well...at least people weren't falling asleep on me- which is always a good sign.
  • I finally finished a project that I have been working on for at least 60 hours! In that 60 hour period my teacher told me that I would have to start the project over after I had put a good 40 hours in because it was a piece of crap (after she had been telling me I had been doing a good job). That dang project was almost the death of me. Literally. Whenever I thought about it I wanted to cry.
  • I have seen about 15 people I know at work and on campus today. I love seeing people I know. I love walking to school with people I know. I love seeing people smile at me (and smiling back at familiar faces) and knowing that in the crowd of 30,000 people that BYU is, there are people that I can smile at, chat with, and care about during my day. I love people. I love giving/getting hugs. I love talking to people. People make me excited. It just makes life a little less drab, you know?
  • I have begun to realize the benefits of exercise. Not that I love it. I really don't like it while I am doing it, but afterward I feel great. Rejuvenated. I am not addicted to exercise by any means, but I have discovered some of the benefits. After all, "Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, and happy people don't kill people."
  • I tend to have interesting run-ins with, uh, law enforcers. Luckily, I have never received a ticket...even if I deserve one. This weekend was no exception!
  • Lastly, I love my parents, I love my sisters, I love my brother. I think they rock! Having a great family is such a blessing in my life.
That is all. I can breathe a sigh of relief because I feel like I can once again enjoy life, the beautiful weather (minus the next couple days) and breathe happily! I hope you are feeling the same way.

Gratitude

A few weeks ago, I made a new goal for myself...to find something to be grateful for in all situations, whether good or bad. Great goal, if I say so myself.

I was walking on campus today feeling all cute and happy and bouncy even though there were prevailing winds. Unfortunately a strong burst of wind caught me and my skirt off guard causing my skirt to fly up to high heaven. Joy! I just exposed myself to about 300 people! Happiness! I wanted to crawl under a rock and die. I think the only thing I could find to be grateful for in this situation is that I was wearing cute underwear.....I am quite the pathetic one!

The Biggest Loser....

I have learned all my life that we should take the talents we have, multiply them and use them to bless others lives. My problem has always been, "Well, gosh darn, I don't have any talents. How am I to use them to bless others if I can't even do anything?" Well this morning, I had an extremely large epiphany. I figured my talent out! I know how to take it and bless others! Wahooo! Drumroll please....brum, da, da, da, brum........(that is my drumroll if you aren't smart enough to figure that out)

I am going to be a Magician! "Well, ho ho ho, Kim is an idiot, why would she dare say something like that?" you may be asking yourself this very moment. I am really really good at making things disappear. Like, really, really good. No, and not just food.  I am talking about things here. For instance, yesterday, I couldn't find my calligraphy ink, pen, and nibs. I searched for like an hour. I tore my apartment up and down. Didn't find a thing. Now look here, my apartment is small, like 900 sq. ft., there are only so many places things can hide. I finally gave up and went to read; feeling frustrated and overwhelmed because I was supposed to have a calligraphy project due today. Well, this morning as I was walking out the door to head to school, projectless, mind you. And what was lying there right in my path? Oh, my calligraphy things that I made disappear yesterday.

Basically my train of thought here is that I should take this weakness I have (losing things) and make a lifestyle out of it! I already know at least one trick...how to make water disappear in a cup! Now all I have to do is find a way to make things reappear when I need them to....hpmh. That could be a little tricky.

Doctors+me=ugh

I hate doctors. I hate making appointments to go see a doctor. (I am also bad at making appointments for other things.)  I will not do it.  Until I was 18, I had to go to the doctor every few months and get a full out physical. Ugh. It was awful. Last Sunday, I had a little accident (what a surprise!) and have been having numbness and tingling in my foot. Sometimes it can be fairly painful...pretty sure I crushed a nerve! I really just need to buck up and call a foot doctor before I am kicked off my parents insurance!
